Introduction to the association
IWI brings together organisations, groups and individuals who share an interest in and feel a duty of care for inland waterways wherever they exist and whatever their present condition. IWI aims to increase understanding of the importance of inland waterways for commercial, leisure and historical value, and to encourage their greater use and appreciation. IWI was launched towards the end of 1994.
Its membership is growing constantly and includes some of the leading navigation authorities (those heading the list under national waterway networks), as well as voluntary bodies and commercial undertakings. Today, the membership covers more than 15 countries from around the world.
